Character Riggin

Character Rigging

These are a couple of animation tests using the character rigging tool, experimenting with some of the parts of the body by placing the bones on the joints of the legs, arms spine and waist to help develop the animation more efficient and cut down on time.

Starting with sketching the character before the inking and the colouring phase.

The next step is having multiply layers for each part of the body: for example the legs, arms, cuphead, eyes, pupils, feet and mouth. Once I began inking the parts using the light table button which is the light bulb icon, where it can have the drawings from other layers be washed out and left with a faded display. Making it easy to draw the each part and keeping them separately in their own layers.

Once all the limbs are inked then the next part would to fill them in with the colours, using a tool called paint behind that enables the brush to paint the colours from behind the ink, without having to have a separate layer.

After the colours are done then next phase is to adding the bones, placing them onto each joint of both the limbs and body. Giving me control of them and being able to animate them by setting the keyframes, that way it would fill in the frames automatically once the limbs are placed in one of the numbered frames making a complete animation.

I try using the ease tool applying the slow in and out principle to the animation that I've done so far, however it didn't seem to have much effect on it, where the problem is to figuring out how to animate with rigging as it becoming a bit complex.

I started animating the limbs traditionally doing it on twos, once I played the animation it almost seemed exactly how a arm would move, I do feel that I am on the right path though further experimentation would be need so that I will be able to use the rigging well enough in future projects.

After going through the process it was a bit complex animating it, where I started with having the arm start from the first frame to then move the arm to the end point and connecting both of the frames to create the animation. However it looked stiff and didn't have any sense of weight or exact speed of an arm moving up, after the first test I began using some of the principles techniques along with having the frames done in twos getting a much better animation. Further continuing this process with the other parts of the body, along with trying the easy ease tool but I didn't see how effective it was. Though I still need to develop more on the character rigging along with using the other tools to further develop my skills.

The range of test where quit successful and I was started to feel accustomed with the controls of the bone tool and I will continue to further work on the rigging tool to produce much refined animated characters.
